A man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found at a home in Sydney’s west.
Christine Rakic’s body was discovered inside a home in Rooty Hill shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.
Police were called to the address over welfare concerns raised by a relative earlier in the night.
Dusan Rakic, 50, was also discovered at the home with “injuries to his throat and arms”.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition under police guard.
A crime scene was established and investigation into the death commenced.
Following an investigation, police charged a man with domestic violence-related murder on Friday.
The man also faces charges of contravening a prohibition or restriction under a domestic violence-relate AVO and breaching bail.
He has been refused bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court via audio visual link on Friday.
Shocked neighbour Kirita Lopa said her brother heard a “loud scream” from what sounded like a “woman” before she woke up to see the flashing lights of police and paramedics.
“I always talk to the man. He’s really nice. Always talking about God,” Ms Lopa said.
“Sometimes he borrowed my car. He called me sister. It’s just shocking.”
“I’ve never seen this happen here and I’ve been here for over 40 years,” a neighbour told 7 News on Wednesday morning after hearing of Ms Rakic’s death.
“We were out for a bit and then came home and thought ‘wow’ something is going on.”
