Hat found in search for young Queensland man missing for one week
Police have located a key piece of clothing as the desperate search for the missing 27-year-old continues.
A hat has been found in the search for a missing 27-year-old Sunshine Coast man who was last seen in a park a week ago.
Jack McLennan was last seen between 8pm and 10pm on Friday, October 6, walking on foot in the Ficks Crossing area in the South Burnett region of Queensland.
Authorities confirmed they have located a hat near McAlister and McLucas streets, believed to belong to Mr McLennan.
This comes as Inspector Scott Stahlhut confirmed a pair of shoes, also believed to be worn by the missing man, was located in the vicinity of Ficks Crossing.
“We’re confident that those shoes belonged to Jack, they have been identified by a close associate of Jack,” Inspector Stahlhut said on Thursday.
A search and rescue operation with up to 30 SES personal has resumed on Friday and will continue into the weekend.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed Mr McLennan in the lead-up to his disappearance, particularly a person who camped at the Ficks Crossing area during the time of his disappearance.
“The person who police would like to speak to was travelling in a dark coloured vehicle with a roof top tent,” police said in a statement.
CCTV captured Mr McLennan entering a bottle shop on Lamb Street in Murgon about 1.30pm on October 4, two days before he was reported missing.
It’s understood he went to Ficks Crossing with a friend who was the “last person to see Jack and reported his concerns to his mother”.
“This is unusual for Jack,” said Inspector Stahlhut. “Some of you have some concerns for his well being … what we do know is that this type of behaviour is definitely out of character.”
Police have urged resident to check their properties, including outbuildings and sheds, for signs of Mr McLennan.
He is described as approximately 185cm tall with light brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and dark shorts.
Anyone with information about Mr McLennan’s whereabouts to contact police.
