Gold Coast light plane crash leaves one man dead, another injured
A pilot has died and a passenger is fighting for life in a Brisbane hospital after a light plane crash on the Gold Coast today.
One person has died and another has been taken to hospital after a light plane crashed on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Emergency crews responded to reports of the plane carrying two people crashing while attempting to land at Heck Field airstrip about 9.30am, The Courier Mail reported.
The pilot is believed to be a 64-year-old Helensvale man, who died at the scene.
His passenger, who was also in his 60s, was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital with burns.
Queensland Police Inspector Jim Plowman said officers were looking for the cause of the crash.
“We believe it lost power for some reason, clipped powerlines and crashed,” he said.
“We had a passenger of that plane, a 60-year-old man, who has been taken to the burns unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.”
Paramedics assessed the two patients at the crash site, which was next to Staplyton Jacobs Well Rd.
One patient was transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition.
Police are investigating.
