Earthquake rattles residents in Far North Queensland

Users have taken to social media on Sunday reporting having felt an earthquake off the Coast in Far Northern Queensland.

A minor earthquake has been recorded off the Far North Queensland coast with local residents reporting having felt the rumbling.

The 3.9 magnitude quake was recorded about 60kms south-east of Cairns on Sunday afternoon.

Geosciences Australia said the quake occurred around 12.16pm at a depth of 10km.

On Sunday afternoon, 84 people had recorded with Geosciences Australia as having felt the tremor.

People took to social media reporting having felt the quake.

“Felt it in south mission beach,” reported one user.

Another added: “Thought so, dogs went off, shed was rattling.”

However others said that they were oblivious.

On Sunday afternoon, the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre had not issued any tsunami warnings.
