Child fighting for life after fiery crash between car and truck in Queensland
A baby boy also suffered a head injury as a result of the crash between a car and truck.
A child has been left fighting for life while a baby suffered a head injury during a fiery crash between a car and truck about four hours north of Brisbane.
A Suzuki Swift was travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway in Aldershot — north of Maryborough — about 5.40pm Thursday when it crashed with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
The prime mover caught fire as a result of the impact.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson confirmed a female child suffered head, limb and chest injuries and was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
A baby boy suffered a head injury but was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.
A 28-year-old man suffered a significant head injury and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, while the 25-year-old female driver of the Suzuki Swift suffered upper and lower limb injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The spokesperson said the truck driver, a 48-year-old man, was stable with lower limb injuries.
He declined further treatment and transport to hospital.
The highway was closed in both directions following the incident, with a diversion put in place, however it has since been reopened.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
