Child dies in Brisbane service station car park
Tragedy has struck at a busy Brisbane service station where a young girl was hit by a car and died, despite frantic efforts to save her.
A three-year-old girl has died after being struck by a vehicle in a service station north of Brisbane on Thursday afternoon.
Paramedics said they found the child with critical injuries when they were called to a service station in Burpengary on the Bruce Highway at 5pm yesterday.
The child could not be saved, despite the best efforts of paramedics who are understood to have performed CPR at the scene.
The heartbreaking incident took place in the popular service station’s bustling car park, which is shared with a number of fast food restaurants.
BP issued a statement following the accident.
“We are deeply saddened by what has occurred this evening and our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved. Emergency services were on site and we will fully support the police investigation in any way we can,” a spokesman said.
The child’s death came hours after an elderly woman died after her mobility scooter collided with a Mercedes-Benz on a Sunshine Coast esplanade.
The 89-year-old woman was transported to hospital after the crash on Hilton Esplanade in Noosa about 1pm on Thursday but died of her injuries.
The 48-year-old driver of the car was not injured.
The Bruce Highway crash is the second involving a young child in the area this week.
On Monday, a toddler was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after it was hit by a car in North Lakes.
