A major regional highway has been closed following a suspected truck crash and chemical fire.

A chemical fire has shut down a major regional highway.

Emergency services were called to Baker’s Bend near Charleville, about 950km west of Brisbane, about 6.30am on Sunday morning after reports of “two chemical trailers on fire”.

The police have now declared a large 20km exclusion zone covering parts of the Mitchell Highway and surrounding properties.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and residents within the exclusion zone are advised to leave immediately.”
