Body of woman found in Surfers Paradise apartment after fire
Footage of the incident shows giant clouds of smoke billowing out of the third-storey apartment’s glass windows where a body was found afterwards.
A woman’s body has been after a fire at a holiday apartment on the Gold Coast.
Emergency services were called to Surf Parade Resort on Surf Parade, Surfers Paradise just after 2pm in response to an active fire, a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said.
Up to five crews attended the scene and the fire was under control by 2.30pm.
Channel 9 footage, filmed by a bystander on a lower floor, shows smoke ballooning out of the unit’s glass windows.
Queensland Police said the body of a woman was found inside.
Detective Sergeant Dane Sheraton told media reporters the incident was considered non-suspicious at this stage.
“There’s nothing suspicious we’re looking at,” he said.
“She was the only one in the unit.”
Sergeant Sheraton said the unit – a short stay holiday rental – was extensively damaged.
Investigations are underway.
