Baby dies, another critical following incident in Brisbane home
Neighbours woke up to screams this morning following a tragic incident that left a six-week-old baby girl dead and her twin fighting for life.
One baby girl has died and her twin is in a critical condition following a tragic incident at a home in Brisbane this morning.
Police and were called to the home in Sunray St, Sunnybank Hills, at about 6am.
When emergency services arrived at the scene they rendered first aid to two six-week-old baby girls.
Unfortunately one of the children could not be saved and died at the scene.
The other baby, her twin, was transported to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
From preliminary investigations, police believe the babies had been sleeping together throughout the night and were found unresponsive this morning.
The child's death is not being treated as suspicious and a post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the death.
The Courier Mail earlier reported that the babies may have been in a bed with their mother when the incident occurred.
However, police would not confirm initial reports the babies were injured after becoming covered with bedding while in bed with the mother.
A neighbour told the publication she could hear the father “howling and screaming” as an ambulance arrived to the home this morning.
Other neighbours told Seven two other children live at the home and that the family always seemed happy.
Police have established a crime scene and investigations are ongoing.
There is a heavy police presence at the scene and officers have been seen leaving the home with bags.
