The missing newborn baby last seen at a Queensland hospital has been found safe following a large-scale search.

Police had previously issued an Amber Alert after the one-day-old baby girl disappeared from Ipswich Hospital on Monday, last seen being loaded into a car by two women.

Officers held grave concerns for the infant which they believed could have been “at significant risk”, and were looking to speak to 18-year-old Khloe Bornen.

It’s understood Khloe, the mother of the infant, discharged herself and the baby from Ipswich Hospital on Monday.

While police believed Khloe was in the company of the child, its whereabouts were unknown until Wednesday morning when Khloe’s mother made a shocking post to social media.

Just hours after the post was made online, both mother and baby were found safe in Ipswich, just after 11am.

According to The Courier Mail, health care providers raised concerns over the baby’s welfare after Khloe left the hospital, and asked police to conduct a welfare check at her home.

When officers arrived, however, neither the baby nor her mother were there.

Khloe’s mother, Manda-Jane Bornen, made a bizarre post to Facebook on Wednesday morning, sparking a shocking twist in the urgent search.

“Khloe n (sic) baby r (sic) safe and well I’ve done what any mum would do to protect her child n (sic) grand child and she left our home not the hospital,” she wrote.

She also claimed the Amber Alert issued by police was a “lie”.

While it was previously reported that the baby had been taken from Ipswich Hospital, this was later proven not to be the case.

West Moreton Health chief executive Hannah Bloch confirmed “the mother discharged herself and her child soon after giving birth”.

“I am disclosing this information in the public interest so women can continue to feel safe giving birth at Ipswich Hospital,” she said.

“This was an isolated incident and the healthcare provided to mother and baby is not in question.”
