The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

Tributes have flowed for a Queensland man due to welcome his newborn daughter into the world after a tragic accident claimed his life.

Joe Williams has been identified as the man who died after a forklift he was driving rolled and trapped his foot off Black Butt Court in Middlemount early on Saturday morning.

Paramedics treated him in a critical condition, but he died from his injuries.

Dual GoFundMe campaigns have been set up to support the 35-year-old’s partner and soon-to-be-born baby girl.

Close friend Tye Stephenson paid tribute to his mate on Facebook as a “brother, partner in crime and joker”.

“I promise mate that I will always be here looking out for your beautiful partner Casey and beautiful baby girl, even though I know that you are looking down on them,” Mr Stephenson wrote.

Friends have paid tribute to Mr Williams as a good mate and a ‘joker’ who was ‘not afraid of getting his hands dirty’.

“We love you mate always and forever.”

Friend Tom Youngs, who organised one of the campaigns, paid tribute to his mate following the news.

“We all have fond memories of Joe,” he wrote on the fundraiser.

“Joe was great to be around, always cracking a joke and there if you needed a chat and not afraid of getting his hands dirty.”

Funds raised in both campaigns will help cover any expenses for his family.

More than $6900 has been raised so far.

A Queensland Police spokesman said investigations were continuing into the death and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
