Queensland Health is warning Brisbane residents after a person infected with measles attended the Church of Scientology and several major shopping centres in Brisbane’s South.

Just weeks before Christmas the infectious person went to over 15 stores, Streets Beach and the Brisbane Church of Scientology, twice within a five-day period.

The person was infectious in the Brisbane community between December 12 and 16.

“Measles is very infectious with symptoms presenting 7-10 days after contact”, reads a statement from Queensland Health.

“People who have been vaccinated or previously contracted the disease are unlikely to become infected,” Queensland Health said.

“Symptoms usually start 7-10 days after the contact with the infected person but can sometimes take as long as three weeks.

“If you think that you may have measles it is very important that you avoid public spaces and arrange testing with your doctor,” Queensland Health said.
