Mark Sheridan Waden, accused of killing Priscilla Brooten, returns to court seven years after her disappearance
Seven years after American beauty queen Priscilla Brooten vanished from her Brisbane home, the man accused of killing her has returned to court for a pre-trial hearing.
A Brisbane man accused of murdering former American beauty queen Priscilla Brooten has returned to court, more than seven years after the 46-year-old vanished from her Bracken Ridge home.
Mark Sheridan Waden, 50, is facing charges of murder and interfering with a corpse over Ms Brooten’s disappearance in July 2018. Her body has never been found.
Mr Waden appeared in the dock on Tuesday as a pre-trial hearing at the Supreme Court continued.
Ms Brooten, a part-time Zumba instructor and literature student originally from the United States, was last seen at the northside home she shared with Mr Waden, her partner at the time.
She was reported missing in December 2018, sparking an investigation that quickly centred on Mr Waden.
In 2019, detectives charged Mr Waden with murder after extensive searches at his Denham St property, including a seven-day forensic dig in which officers excavated parts of the yard and examined areas around the driveway.
Despite the absence of Ms Brooten’s remains, a magistrate earlier ruled there was enough circumstantial evidence for him to stand trial.
Mr Waden remains on bail as the case moves through the Supreme Court. He has not entered any pleas.
The matter is scheduled for a review on February 5 2026.
