A Sunshine Beach man has been charged over an alleged early morning sexual assault on the Sunshine Coast, where he is accused of jumping from a car and attempting to push a woman to the ground.

The man is alleged to have confronted the 34-year-old woman at 5.20am on Saturday near the main tourist strip at Noosa Heads.

The woman, who lives locally, was walking along a thoroughfare between Noosa Parade and Hastings Street when the man, not known to her, exited a vehicle and approached her, police allege.

She struggled free and sought refuge at a nearby business where police were contacted.

The man has been charged with assault with intent to commit rape and deprivation of liberty and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.
