Man charged with attempted murder, sexual assault of girl, 9, known to him

A MAN has been charged with the attempted murder and sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in Brisbane.

A 43-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in the South Brisbane area on Monday.

The New Farm man is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, sexual assault, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

It is understood the man and the child are known to each other.

The man has also been linked to the armed robbery and theft of a taxi in Strathpine on that same day.

Police alleged the man caught a taxi from Emily St, Acacia Ridge about 3am and was driven to Strathpine in Brisbane’s north where someone was supposed to pay his fare.

But no one was at the Samsonvale Rd home and the man allegedly pulled a knife, threatened the taxi driver and stole the taxi.

The taxi was tracked by GPS and found in nearby Lawnton, where the man was seen in another vehicle with a man and a woman.

He allegedly forced the woman out of the car and drove off with the man.

The man appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old’s case was adjourned to January 23 and there was no application for bail.

The court was told the man, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, may be facing further questioning “in relation to other matters”.
