Family Feud contestants will still receive prizes, Network Ten says

CONTESTANTS who have yet to have their Family Feud episode aired can rest easy that they will receive the prizes they won, despite the quiz show being “rested” by Network Ten after poor ratings.

CONTESTANTS who have yet to appear on Family Feud can rest assured that they will receive their prizes despite the show being “rested” by Network Ten.

Receding ratings are being blamed for Ten announcing it will pull the game show from its programming, which it revived four years ago with Grant Denyer as host.

Denyer will redeployed to front a yet-to-be-named new game show but in the meantime Family Feud episodes will air until the second half of the year.

A Ten spokeswoman said the network would honour the prizes won during the taping episodes and reiterated that the show had not been axed.

Contestants on quiz shows traditionally don’t receive their prizes until the episode they appeared in airs on television.

“As Family Feud has not been axed, but rather is being rested, all episodes will go to air as normal,” the Ten spokeswoman said.

“Therefore, contestants will receive any prizes and prizemoney they have won on the show.”

Denyer announced the demise of Family Feud on his 2DayFM radio show, Em, Grant and Ed, on Tuesday.

“I’ve got a big announcement guys, Family Feud is wrapping up,” he said.

“It’s obviously been a huge success for myself and 10. We only thought we would get two years out of it.”

While the show debuted in July 2014 with an audience of about 700,000, that number fell substantially.

Recently, it was averaging 298,000 viewers, losing over 100,000 from TEN Eyewitness News at 5pm.

The writing appeared to be on the wall last year when the show moved production from Melbourne to Sydney to save on costs.

“We gave it a bit too much. Six days a week, two episodes a day ... we might have squeezed that lemon a little bit too much,” Denyer said.

Ten has announced it’s casting for a new big budget game show which Denyer will host.

“It (Family Feud) will be put on hold later this year and we will be announcing an exciting new game show very soon,” the spokeswoman said.

“We will also have some exciting news about Grant Denyer’s new show on Ten soon.”
