A MAN pointed a rifle at police several times before taking refuge inside a home on a rural property northwest of Brisbane this morning, it has emerged.
Police said they were called to the Keen Rd residence in Crossdale, east of Esk, about 8.30am after a woman made an emergency call requesting assistance.
A police spokeswoman said a man on the property appeared to point a rifle at officers “a number of times” before running into bushland when they arrived.
It is understood the man, who is believed to be alone, later sought refuge inside a home on the property but has since fled into surrounding bushland again.
Police said an emergent situation was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act about 9.40am encompassing about a 1km exclusion zone.
The spokeswoman said that was extended to 5km sometime after noon following the man’s speedy exit from the home.
It is understood negotiators are continuing to work towards a resolution as the Special Emergency Response Team wait on standby.

POLICE are trying to talk down a man with a rifle at a property in southeast Queensland.
It is believed the man is alone in the Keen Road house in Crossdale, east of Esk.
An emergency situation has been declared and a one kilometre exclusion zone set up around the property.
Police were called to the property around 8.30am.
“Upon their arrival a man was located at the property armed with a rifle,” police said.
“No one else is believed to be in the house with the man.”
The declaration of an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made just after 9.40am.
