Accused teen killer Zlatko Sikorsky on life support after prison bashing

Zlatko Sikorsky, the man accused of torturing and murdering his young girlfriend before stuffing her body in a barrel, has died in hospital 10 days after a prison brawl.

Sikorsky, 37, was taken to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition last Tuesday after he was involved in a fight with another prisoner at Wolston Correctional Centre.

He suffered fatal head injuries and spent a number of days on life support before he was pronounced dead on Thursday morning.

The Queensland Police Service’s Correctional Services Investigation Unit is investigating.

Sikorsky was awaiting trial for the alleged murder of Larissa Beilby, who was 16 at the time of her death in June 2018.

He was committed to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court on charges of murder, torture, deprivation of liberty, and interfering with a corpse.

He was accused of murdering Ms Beilby at a property in Buccan, south of Brisbane, before stuffing her body inside a barrel on the back of a ute later found abandoned at Stapylton.

Ms Beilby’s father had reported her missing one day before her body was found.

Evidence submitted during the committal hearing suggested Sikorsky allegedly refused to take the 16-year-old to hospital after he bashed her.

According to a Courier Mail report, witnesses said they heard screams coming from Sikorsky’s car the day Ms Beilby was killed.

She sustained blunt force trauma to her head, neck and limbs before she died. She may have asphyxiated, however a cause of death was not determined due to her body’s decomposition.

As reported in the Courier Mail, a witness in Skiorsky’s committal hearing described him as “intimidating”, and that she had told the man he shouldn’t be in contact with the teenager, due to her age. He was 20 years older than her.

The same witness told the hearing she had “smoked ice” with both Sikorsky and Ms Beilby prior to her death, and that the man was “high 24-7”.

It was further heard Sikorsky “always” carried a gun with him, and had told friends he was keeping drugs and money in the barrel Ms Beilby’s body was later found in.

The court heard the teenager had run away from home, was staying in a safe house and “doing drugs with older friends” in the weeks before her death.
