Young woman sexually assaulted in own home, in alleged random attack in Ipswich

A YOUNG woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home as she slept, in what police believe is a random early morning attack.

A YOUNG Queensland woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home as she slept, in what police believe is a random early morning attack on Sunday.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was asleep in her bedroom in Ipswich, west of Brisbane, about 8.45am, when a man allegedly broke in and sexually assaulted her.

The man fled the scene and was arrested nearby a short time later.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault, entering a dwelling with intent, assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, torture and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The assault came just hours after an unrelated sexual assault on the Queensland holiday hotspot of the Sunshine Coast, in which an 18-year-old girl was attacked while walking alone.

Police are continuing their search for the teenager’s attacker, who the woman reported had a European, possibly French, accent.

The teen was walking along a walkway in the popular tourist area of Sunrise Beach, south of Noosa, about 1.55am Sunday, when the attack occurred.

It was thwarted when her screams alerted a man who was walking nearby and he came to her aid.

The woman’s attacker fled the scene on foot.

The victim estimated the man’s height at 180 centimetres and said he was wearing long dark pants and a red T-shirt.

Noosa detectives have urged anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack to contact them.
