Wild reason man allegedly robbed tradie at gunpoint

A tradie has recounted the shocking moment he was allegedly robbed in broad daylight by a man reportedly carrying a shotgun.

A man has recounted the terrifying moment he had a shotgun allegedly shoved in his face while having his vehicle stolen in broad daylight in South East Queensland.

On Tuesday morning, Logan man Vincent Becquigny was sitting in his Hyundai van and assessing his work schedule for the day when he was interrupted by a man allegedly pointing a sawn-off shotgun in his face.

A woman managed to take a video showing a man armed with what looks like a gun entering the van.

Speaking to The Courier-Mail, it was just like any other morning when Mr Becquigny sat in the vehicle and began assessing his work.

“All of a sudden, I’m staring into a barrel (of a shotgun),” he said.

Police will allege the man pointed his shotgun towards the driver, ordering him to get out of the van. All the while, Mr Becquigny had “a lot of thoughts going through my head”, hesitating to get out of the vehicle as he assessed the nature of the weapon.

“It looked pretty legit, like it had a timber handle,” he recalled. “It looked like a sawn-off shotty.”

While the man allegedly pointed the weapon at Mr Becquigny, a passer-by pulled out her phone and began recording the scenes. In the video, a man can be seen standing at the door of the white van, with the apparent shotgun appearing by his side.

Mr Becquigny recalled the alleged thief apologising throughout the ordeal, claiming he “just had a bit of a day”.

“(That) doesn’t really mean much when you are f**king staring into the face of a barrel,” Mr Becquigny argued.

Police arrested the 39-year-old Eagleby man on Wednesday morning and alleged he used the weapon to rob someone who was walking though Mount Warren Park on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after the man was arrested, Mr Becquigny was informed he could collect his van. However, by the time he returned to his vehicle, the Logan man realised the majority of his belongings were missing and the van’s signage had been removed.

“They’d (allegedly) taken all the stickers with our company name and number off, about $2000 worth of tools, customers, appliances that were going to be returned as well as personal items, everything was gone really,” he told The Courier-Mail.

Police have since charged the 39-year-old Eagleby man with two counts of robbery armed, enter dwelling and commit and unlawful use of motor vehicles, aircraft or vessels and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, carry/place dangerous goods in/on vehicle, unlawful possession of weapon category D/H/R weapon – short firearm in public.

He is expected to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday.
