A 20-YEAR-OLD man was charged early today with murder after a fatal stabbing on a suburban Townsville street.

The arrest came after police launched a manhunt after the victim was found not breathing on a footpath in front of a house in the suburb of Hermit Park on Sunday night.

The 37-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was found to have multiple stab wounds and died at the scene.

Police this morning said the arrested man was from Railway Estate and had been charged with one count of murder.

He will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court this morning.

Two men walked out of the house near where the man was found and were led across the street by police, with one screaming when he saw the man’s body.

Neighbours reported hearing yelling around the time of the disturbance and told the Townsville Bulletin the home was often the scene of disturbances.

One resident said there were regular fights in the street and believed the disputes involved drugs.

Another neighbour said up to 10 people had last week tried to break into the property where the stabbing happened.

“There is always trouble down that end of the street,” said the neighbour, who asked not to be named.
