Tiahleigh Palmer: New footage released as police make $250,000 plea
NEW footage has emerged of murder victim Tiahleigh Palmer, as police make an extraordinary offer to whoever holds the key to solving her killing.
HOMICIDE detectives investigating the death of Queensland 12-year-old Tiahleigh Palmer have revealed some people they’ve spoken to have secrets about the schoolgirl.
Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said people knew more than they were letting on.
“We have spoken to people that we believe have more information than what their telling us,” he said at a media conference yesterday.
Supt Hutchinson used the conference to announce a $250,000 reward for information and indemnity from prosecution.
It’s hoped the offer would be enough to convince anyone who holds information to speak up and tell police what they know.
Police believe they have already spoken to those people.
“We’re reasonably confident that we have spoken with people who have information about what occurred to Tia at that time,” Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said.
“For whatever reason they’re not coming forward with that information, the information we want. That might be through fear, it might be through loyalty or it might be through their own involvement in it.”
It was hoped the offer of the money and indemnity would be enough to convince someone to come forward — but the offer was only available to one person, suggesting police believe several people know something about Tiahleigh’s death.
The offer of a reward comes relatively early. It usually happens much later in a homicide inquiry.
CCTV footage has also been released showing Tia at her school the day before she disappeared. It is the last known images of her alive.
Tiahleigh’s body was found on the banks of the Pimpama River on the Gold Coast in November. She had been dropped off at Marsden State School, 40km away from where her body was found, on October 30 but never made it inside.
Police now believe it is most likely that she had a prearranged meeting with someone that morning.
“The information we have gleaned from the investigation so far suggests to us Tia did have a prearranged meeting that morning. That information has come from a number of sources,” reported The Courier-Mail.
He refused to say if police had spoken to the person or persons she was supposed to meet.
Her shoe was found in the river her body was recovered from but her school uniform and distinctive purple Mambo backpack are still missing.
