‘Terrifying’: Car stolen with baby in back seat
A Gold Coast mother has opened up about the traumatic ordeal in which opportunistic thieves took off with her car while her baby was strapped in the back seat.
An unsuspecting mother has had the scare of her life after her car was stolen from her Gold Coast home with her seven-month-old baby inside.
The thieves watched as the mother pulled up to her Varsity Lakes home at about midday on Wednesday.
The woman briefly left her car at which point the opportunistic thieves drove off withthe baby in the back seat.
The car was then dumped on the next street over.
Police said the baby was discovered inside the vehicle “safe and well” and was soon “reunited with their family”.
The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, shared her experience of the traumatic ordeal with 9News.
“I just thought, ‘Is he gonna die? Who’s got him?’ and I just couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“I was frantic. Yeah, it was the most terrifying experience I’ve ever had.”
Neighbours reportedly saw the thieves approach the vehicle from their own car, dressed in hoodies.

“I heard this massive screech — I just didn’t really think anything of it — come out and the car was gone,” the mother told 9 News.
While she described her reunion with her baby as “the best feeling in the world”, the woman said she was still “very angry” about what happened.
Queensland Police are yet to identify those involved and have urged anyone with information to contact police.
