Teens arrested after alleged ‘vicious, cowardly’ assault leaves boy, 17, fighting for life
Multiple teenagers have been charged with attempted murder after an alleged group assault on a boy, 17.
Multiple teenagers have been charged with attempted murder after a boy was left fighting for life following an alleged violent group assault in Brisbane.
Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming on Tuesday said search warrants were executed at 10 locations across the city in response to the alleged incident in Milton, which has left the 17-year-old victim clinging to life in ICU.
Police arrested 10 teenagers, aged between 15 and 19.
They have all been charged with one count each of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and contravening order about information to access information stored electronically.
Detective Fleming said the attack occurred at a Railway Terrace apartment in Milton following a social gathering on Friday.
He said a group of 12 males attended the apartment complex at 3.15am on Saturday.
“We will allege that while in the apartment, this group of young men violently and viciously assaulted the victim,” Detective Fleming said.
“We will allege the incident was a cowardly attack by a group upon a young, defenceless man.”
Detective Fleming said the boy was unconscious and in a coma in hospital.
“A young man, through no fault of his own, lies in ICU in a critical condition.”
Police will allege the group were “only present for a few minutes” before fleeing.
Police will oppose bail when the pair appear in Children’s Court on Thursday.
A motive has not been determined but Detective Fleming said it was suspected there was some form of “potential retaliation” between the two groups.
He said some of the young people alleged to be involved label themselves as being part of a gang.
“I’m not going to name the gang,” Detective Fleming said.
“We know from experience overseas in the United States is that once you start doing that you risk this becoming a tit-for-tat and some sort of notoriety for these young people.
“I don’t want another group to think … we’ve got to get our name (out there).”
