A WOMAN has been found dead in suspicious circumstances at the Gap in Brisbane’s western suburbs.

Police were called to a house in Jillinda Place where they found the body after 7am on Friday.

A crime scene has been established and parts of the street roped off as forensic investigators examined the home.

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart this afternoon told reporters: “That will be rigorously and continuously looked at to identify those responsible for the death of a woman at The Gap earlier today,” he said.

Detective Inspector Joe Zitny said it was “apparent that she sustained injuries” but that he wasn’t “in a position to outline them at this time”.

“That would be determined by a post-mortem examination which I understand will take place in the next few days,” he said.

Police have confirmed the person who called them to the scene is assisting with their inquiries, but wouldn’t say who it was.

It is believed the woman didn’t live alone.

Insp Zitny said the investigation was still in its preliminary stages.

“We’re keeping an open mind and there a number of lines of inquiry that we’ve already identified and intend pursuing, however as time progresses no doubt there will be further lines we will be following up on,” he said.

Insp Zitny said police have spoken to neighbours and the person who made the first call to emergency services is assisting them with inquiries, the Courier Mail reported.

Family friend Timka Minova said she was contacted by police to come to the house to support the dead woman’s daughter, the ABC reported.

She said the girl had already lost her father.

“I’m very sorry for her daughter, she now no have a mother and she no have a father,” Ms Minova said.

She described the girl’s mother as “a very nice friendly woman, she’s very good”, according to the ABC.

Neighbour Jack Randall said he heard what sounded like an argument early this morning, the public broadcaster reported.

“It just sounded like murmuring of two people having a really slight minor argument, not too big, nothing that would lead to a killing, I mean that’s tragic,” he said.

“It was around [between] 12:00am to 2:00am. I had my headphones in and I couldn’t really make out distinct clear words.”

Police are urging anyone who was in the area around Jillinda Place and Kays Road in The Gap and may have seen anything out of the ordinary to contact Crime Stoppers.
