Rural street in shock at shooting in Pimpama street on the Gold Coast

TWO men have survived being shot in the face and groin during an alleged altercation on the northern Gold Coast yesterday afternoon.

DETECTIVES have charged two men who allegedly shot each other in their faces in an alteraction on the Gold Coast’s north yesterday afternoon.

About 5.15pm, police were called to a location on Old Wharf Rd, Pimpama, after reports a man had been shot.

Two men — one aged 24 and the other 58 — were transported to hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

The first man suffered facial wounds and the second received gunshot wounds to his face and groin area, according to paramedics.

Police will allege two men and a woman attended an address on Old Wharf Rd just after 5pm during which time an altercation has occurred and firearm was discharged, injuring two men. The group then allegedly fled the scene.

Officers, including general duties, detectives, the dog squad and Polair conducted a search of the area, taking a 41-year-old man into custody at an address on Dewrang Drive.

A 39-year-old man was later taken into custody at an address in Ormeau.

A 41-year-old Pimpama man has been charged with two counts of acts intended to maim and one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon (shotgun) and unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun).

Both men are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

It is believed the altercation began at the Pimpama home before spilling into the front yard and the road.

Police established a crime scene after receiving multiple triple-0 calls at 5.15pm.

General duty officers, detectives, dog squad and Polair conducted searches in the area, while forensic officers combed the scene for evidence.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman said two ambulance units attended.

They took a man, believed to be in his 30s, suffering facial wounds to Princess Alexandra Hospital in South Brisbane.

A second man in his 50s or 60s received gunshot wounds to his groin area and face and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Both men were believed to be in a stable condition.

Locals flocked to the street to see what all the commotion was about.

“It is usually such a quiet area,” one teenager said. “We saw cops everywhere.”

Locals noticed a badly damaged pinkish-purple hatchback on its roof between two properties on Old Wharf Road. Police examined the car and it was towed away at 8.30pm.
