A Queensland Police spokesperson said police were called to a home on Christmas St in North Toowoomba after receiving reports a woman had been seriously injured about 1.50pm on Wednesday.

Officers found the woman on the footpath when they arrived.

Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collins said three associates of the woman were helping police in the early stages of the investigation.

“We’re calling for any witnesses that possibly might have been in the West St, Christmas St area this afternoon, between 1.30pm and 2pm, to come forward with any dash footage or any eyewitness accounts,” he said.

Inspector Collins said the shooting, which occurred around “school pick-up time”, was “extremely alarming”.

“We had all available crews at the time responding to the incident,” he said.

Police had closed West St and Bridge St on Wednesday afternoon following the incident, with residents advised to remain indoors.

However, Inspector Collins said there was no “concern” for public safety on Wednesday night.
