A Caboolture woman has shared the terrifying moment when her 19-year-old son was allegedly held at gunpoint by an armed trio demanding the keys to her car.

Last Thursday night, Natasha Burnet woke to a commotion outside her home in the early hours.

When she stepped outside, she says she found three masked offenders holding her son at gunpoint, insisting on the keys to her Mazda CX-9.

Moments later, the gun was allegedly pointed at her as she started the car for them to make their escape.

“Just to get them out of my garage and it was scary,” Ms Burnet told Sunrise this morning.

“You have got three masked men in front of you, with weapons, and guns pointed at you, so I was scared for my son and myself and not to mention the other three kids that were inside.”

The gut-churning incident has left the family struggling with trauma. Ms Burnet admits she’s still processing what happened and her son has quit his job from stress.

“I find myself staring into nothing, and I think of the events of what happened last week,” she said.

“He (my son) has left his job now, it is pretty traumatic for him. Hence why you don’t see him this morning, because he is doing okay, but he is not going back to work because of it.”

To make matters worse, the family did not have theft insurance.

The car was eventually recovered but in a “trashed” and un-drivable state.

“It is not good, but from the outside, it looks fine. It is pretty trashed on the inside, I have not really looked at it or touched it since I got it back,” she said.

“Have not come to terms with … looking in the car just yet.”

Police later apprehended a 24-year-old Mansfield man at North Lakes shopping centre following a dramatic chase.

He was charged with several offences, including “enter dwelling and commit, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.”

Two other offenders involved in the theft remain at large.

Investigations are ongoing.
