Two women – one just 20-years-old – allegedly bashed and robbed a taxi driver overnight, leaving the man with a broken face and leg.

A Queensland cabbie has been left with facial fractures and a broken leg and after a brutal bashing in Rockhampton overnight.

One 20-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm and another woman is on the run after the pair allegedly bashed and robbed a 61-year-old local taxi driver about 3am Thursday morning.

According to Queensland Police, the pair became verbally abusive and were asked to exit the vehicle on Fitzroy Street in Rockhampton’s CBD. 

Police allege that is when they repeatedly assaulted the 61-year-old man, who was later found to have suffered facial fractures and a broken leg.

The duo also allegedly robbed the man’s taxi of cash and personal possessions.

The driver was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious but stable condition after receiving some first aid from police at the scene of the alleged bashing. 

Patrols found the 20-year-old woman not long after the incident where she was arrested and taken into custody.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said investigations were continuing into the whereabouts of the second alleged offender.

She was due before Rockhampton Magistrates Court later on Thursday afternoon.
