Qld Police charge 53-year-old man over alleged murder in Garbutt

A man has been charged with murder after police found a woman’s body during a welfare check.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with murder after police found the body of a woman during a welfare check in Far North Queensland.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Chandler St, Garbutt, in Townsville, to perform a welfare check about 1.45pm on November 4.

Queensland Police discovered the body of a 47-year-old woman at the home.

Police will allege the woman had been fatally stabbed in the chest.

Police believe the woman died on October 30 and urge anyone with information to contact police.

Following an investigation, the 53-year-old man was charged on December 2 with murder (domestic violence).

He is set to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on May 30, 2025.

Investigations are continuing.
