Police detonate suspicious device inside Brisbane home

A man is in custody and a suspicious package has been detonated following an hours-long siege in Brisbane.

Police have detonated a suspicious device inside a suburban Brisbane home and taken a man into custody following an hours-long siege.

The chaos unfolded at a Hamley St, Wooloowin, property just after 1pm when police came across the items.

Queensland Police Service Acting Inspector Mark Muller said the device’s capability was unknown to police at first.

“Upon entry to the residence, police have located a plastic tub. Inside that tub there were devices that aroused our suspicion,” he said.

Officers said they discovered a safe at 8.30pm and 15 minutes later an explosion was heard.

A 42-year-old Capalaba man was then located in a car at an address in Rome St, Coorparoo. Detectives arrested the man who is under police guard in hospital.

There is no ongoing risk to any area and investigators thanked the community for their patience.

The vehicle has been towed from the scene to a secure police facility for forensic analysis.
