Police announce $250K reward in renewed appeal to solve 2019 death of Jason Guise

Maintenance workers found Jason Guise, 45, in a sewage tank south of Brisbane in 2019 and his killer is still yet to be found.

Homicide detectives release CCTV footage

Almost two years after the body of Jason Guise was found in a Brisbane sewage tank, police have announced a $250,000 reward in hopes they can finally bring his family answers.

Jason, who was 45 at the time, was last seen on April 21, 2019 in Wynnum in the city’s southeast, before his body was found more than two weeks later by maintenance workers.

Police believe he was killed elsewhere before being transported to the sewage tank.

Acting Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said on Wednesday police were willing to grant indemnity to anyone involved before or after the man’s death, which he says is still being treated as suspicious.

“We believe he’s died elsewhere and multiple people have transported him (given) his body weight and size,” he said.

“It would take multiple people to get to the location and access the sewer well and place him there.

“Anyone involved before or after the death or during transportation, that’s who we’re looking at granting indemnity for.”

Jason was last seen riding a pushbike after picking up a food package from a Rosie’s food van in Wynnum. He was captured on CCTV footage riding past the Waterloo Bay Hotel on Berrima St, Wynnum at 7.16pm on April 21.

Police believe he returned home before he died, as the clothing he was found in was different to what he was captured wearing in the footage.

“We believe from this point in time, multiple people were involved for him to end up where he was,” Inspector Mooney said.

Inspector Mooney said Jason’s family had spent the last two years desperate for answers, and his father Barry still contacted police “regularly”.

“Anyone out there with information … (please) come forward and offer the family some closure,” he said.

“Barry (Jason’s father) is very grateful the reward is out there.”

Inspector Mooney said police had investigated a number of leads, but all had “dried up”.

In 2020, Barry Guise said his son had “unfortunately” become involved in drugs.

“He was still a good person,” he told reporters last year.

“His house was within a kilometre of the sewage treatment plant, so someone’s obviously put him in there and he was 90 to 100kg so I think it would have to be more than one person.”
