A 39-year-old Brisbane woman has been remanded in custody after a stabbing spree which has left one man dead and four others injured.
Natascha Mielke faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday having been arrested following the series of knife attacks in the city’s inner-west the previous evening.
Police allege she told three men at a Paddington hostel, “we are all going to die tonight” before stabbing them with a large knife.
Mielke then fatally stabbed another man outside the Pinjarra Lodge halfway house before moving on to Ashgrove and attacking a fifth man. The court heard the accused was homeless, suffered mental health problems and needed psychiatric assessment.
She has been charged with one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and committing acts to maim.
She will reappear via videolink on May 22.
OVERNIGHT: A woman stabbed a man four times at a Brisbane residential hostel after telling three other residents she stabbed first “We are all going to die tonight”, police allege.
Andrew James Faulks, 42, who was allegedly stabbed in his upper body with a large knife while he was in a yard at Pinjarra Lodge in Paddington on Friday night, died later in hospital.
After stabbing the four men who lived at the Kennedy Tce residential care facility about 10pm, the woman then went to Ashgrove and attacked another man, it is alleged.
Natascha Mielke, 39, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday charged with the murder of Mr Faulks.
She also is charged with the attempted murder of Jay Allan Morgan, Leslie Mervyn Potter and Michael Clive Ralph and committing acts intended to maim Joseph Bognar at Ashgrove.
Mielke hung her head as Magistrate Zachary Sarra read out the charges.
Defence solicitor Nick Hanly said there would likely be a future application for a mental health assessment of Mielke.
It will be alleged Mielke visited the three men she is accused of attempting to kill in rooms at Pinjarra Lodge late on Friday.
Before stabbing the three residents she is alleged to have said to them: “We are all going to die tonight.”
Mr Morgan and Mr Ralph each had upper body and defensive hand wounds, while Mr Potter was wounded under his armpit, it is alleged.
Police allege Mielke then went to a yard at the hostel and stabbed Mr Faulks in his abdomen and back.
Mielke is alleged to have then gone to Waterworks Rd, Ashgrove, near Woolcock Park, where she tried to stab hostel resident Mr Bognar, who received only minor cuts.
It is alleged police later found Mielke under the bridge, with a knife and the wallet of one of the victims.
Detective Sergeant Michael Hall said all involved in the incident knew each other.
