Maryborough: Police charge man with murder after Sunday night brawl

A man has been charged with murder over a body found down an embankment at a Queensland property the morning after a wild brawl.

A 36-year-old Plantation Island man has been charged with murder after a wild brawl allegedly resulted in another man‘s death.

Police found the body of a 43-year-old man in an embankment at a property on Burns Road in Ross Creek about 10am on Monday.

That night, police arrested the Plantation Island man and charged him with murder, wilful damage and assault occasioning bodily harm.

An “altercation” broke out between four men in Maryborough about 5pm on Sunday, police allege, that left two men injured and a third in hospital after he was stabbed in the abdomen.

The two men allegedly fled the scene in a white ute, which was later found crashed into the front gate of a property on Burns Road.

When police arrived at the scene, the ute had been abandoned and the two men couldn’t be found.

Police allege the 36-year-old charged with murder had been involved in the initial altercation, during which the deceased man was seriously injured.

He will appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Officers have also arrested a 45-year-old man they allege is linked to the crashed ute and taken him into custody for questioning.
