Man surrenders to police after 18 hour siege
AN ANGRY, agitated man has kept a Brisbane suburb on edge for 18 hours during a tense stand-off with police.
A MAN has surrendered to police after an 18-hour siege at his home in Brisbane.
Police were called to the Murarrie residence in the city’s east at 3am on Monday after reports of a disturbance.
The 40-year-old, identified by his first name David on Seven News, gave himself over to police at 9.30pm. He has been taken to hospital for observation.
During the siege, he could be seen through a smashed window, agitated and angry, and yelling at specialist police who had surrounded the home.
He’d smashed several windows with a stick and had blood on his hands. He was alone in the home.
Negotiators could be heard urging him to “come to the front window so we can see that you’re all right”.
Detective Inspector Geoff Sheldon told reporters police were initially called by worried neighbours who could hear two men arguing loudly.
At one stage, when he stopped replying, police threw a device with cameras attached to it as they tried to establish what he was doing.
