Man shot dead by Queensland Police in rest area off highway

A man has died after he was shot by a police officer in a rest area off a highway in Queensland.

A man has died after he was shot by a police officer in Colosseum, near Gladstone, in Queensland.

The man was shot in a rest area off the Bruce Hwy, 20km south of Miriam Vale, about 10.50am on Monday.

The incident is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission, Queensland Police said in a statement.

“Police investigations are ongoing,” the statement read.

“Welfare matters are being addressed for the officers involved in the incident.”

The Bruce Hwy is closed at the site of the incident in both directions and diversions are in place.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed it was called to the incident on Monday morning.

The man was attended to by paramedics and officers but died at the scene.
