Man, 71, cowardly attacked on Surfside bus at Palm Beach

AN elderly man is recovering in hospital after a teenager launched a cowardly attack on him on a bus at Palm Beach overnight.

AN elderly man is recovering in hospital after a teenager launched a cowardly attack on him on a bus at Palm Beach overnight.

The 71-year-old man was travelling from Tweed Heads to Southport at about 11.15pm with a female friend.

At Tugun a group of six men in their early twenties boarded the bus.

One of the men started smoking on the bus and the victim asked him to stop.

A verbal altercation ensued and at Palm Beach the man punched the victim a number of times in the head and face. The group of men then got off the bus.

The 71-year-old man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with facial injuries.

The man is described as in his early twenties, 175cm tall, caucasian in appearance with short blonde hair and wearing a white jumper and beige pants.
