Grinches steal Christmas lights from homes north of Brisbane
GRINCHES are ruining Christmas for Brisbane families — stealing lights from front yard displays.
“GRINCHES,” as they have been dubbed by police, are stealing Christmas lights from the front yards of homes around Brisbane.
Senior Sergeant Steve Watterson said police had received several reports over the last few days of stolen lights and decorations.
“We are aware of at least four incidents of Christmas lights being stolen over recent nights in North Lakes, Taringa, Samford Valley and Clayfield,” Sen-Sgt Watterson said.
Sen-Sgt Watterson described the act as “ruining Christmas” for families and encouraged people with displays to be vigilant.
“Sadly we suspect that more people may have had their lights stolen, but they often don’t think it’s worth reporting to police,” he said.
“We would like to encourage people across the northside to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour or people in your street — especially in neighbourhoods with large numbers of Christmas lights displays.
“It is important that if you notice someone suspicious, you get a good description of that person.
For example, try and take note of whether they’re a man or a woman, what their body frame size is, how old they are, their complexion, their hair style and whether they have any facial hair.
“Looking at the beautiful lights displays across the community is one of the best things about the Christmas season — and we want to make sure people who take the time and effort to decorate their houses continue to do so.”
