COLLEAGUES are rallying around the two constables involved in yesterday’s shooting, saying the force is “110 per cent” behind their split-second decision to open fire.

“The officers involved in today’s incident are doing as well as can be expected. All police involved acted extremely bravely,” said Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers.

“We are very lucky we do not have one or even two murdered police officers today and we also commend police who provided first aid to the alleged offender at the scene which I am informed saved the alleged offender’s life.”

The officers will be given time to come to terms with their close call, with police recently winning the right to three days’ leave after being involved in a critical incident.

Superintendent Michelle Stenner said pair had the full support of their colleagues.

“At times like these we rally really well around our members,” Supt Stenner said.

“We’re wrapping all of our support services around both of our officers.

“It’s very important that we show them our full support and are 110 per cent behind their actions.

“As you can imagine this is an absolutely traumatic experience for anyone to go through.”
