‘Extremely concerning’: Shots fired at Gold Coast police station
A police station sleeping an officer and their family has been fired at in an “extremely concerning” drive-by shooting in Queensland.
A Queensland police station – sleeping officer and their family – has been targeted in a drive-by shooting early on Monday morning.
At least two shots were fired into the Arundel police beat – located on the Gold Coast – from a sedan travelling west on Napper Rd at 3.45am.
The bullets ripped through the beat’s wooden front door, while another bullet hit a police car parked in the driveway.
No one was injured during the incident.
In a press conference on Monday, Detective Inspector Chris Ahern said the officer – who was inside the station at the time of the attack – woke up to a loud noise.
“Concerningly, there were people inside the beat at the time, an officer was inside the beat and heard a noise,” he said.
“(They) came out a short time later to discover the damage that occurred.
“It is an extremely concerning situation that we have projectiles fired into the front of an establishment like that with an officer and his family present.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or something suspicious in the area – or may have any relevant footage from the vicinity at the time – is urged to come forward to police.
