Exclusive golf club chef Patrick Willemyns shot dead in Karana Downs home
A GATED community west of Brisbane is in shock after a much-loved chef at an exclusive golf club was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
THE man accused of murdering a much-loved chef in Brisbane’s west is the victim’s brother.
The body of Patrick Willemyns, 53, was found at a Karana Downs home just after 1pm on Monday.
The chef at an exclusive gold club had been shot in the head inside his home which sits in a gates community, but investigators failed to find a weapon at the property.
A South Brisbane man, 56, revealed to be Mr Willemyns’s brother, was charged with murder overnight. He is set to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The news of the popular chef’s death has hit the greater Brisbane golf community hard.
Karana Downs Golf Club, where Mr Willemyns worked, remembered him as a “great friend and chef”, posting a tribute “from the team” on its Facebook page.
Members thanked “Pat” for his “lovely meals” and paid tribute online.
“Such a sad day. Prayers and thoughts to his family,” one member wrote.
Locals have expressed shock at the horrific crime in what is known as a “safe neighbourhood”.
A resident in the exclusive gated community, Larissa Hayes, told the Courier-Mail she was “shocked” by the news.
“This kind of stuff doesn’t happen; well it does, but not here,” she said.
