Dramatic bodycam footage has captured the moment a police van was rammed with an allegedly stolen car as the driver tries to escape being arrested.
A man has been slapped with multiple charges over the incident, which unfolded outside of a Gold Coast hotel on Saturday night.
Police allege a stolen 2004 Honda Accord was seen driving dangerously in a hotel car park on Fern Street, in Surfers Paradise.
The driver, 26, allegedly drove over a strategically-placed tyre deflation device.
Police will allege he then continued on four deflated tyres and rammed into a marked police van at the top of an exit ramp.
A loud crunch can be heard when the police vehicle is rammed.
Bodycam footage from one of the officers captures the car’s occupants fleeing before being cornered in a stairwell.
The 26-year-old driver was arrested nearby on the Gold Coast Highway.
He has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage of police property, obstruct police, driving of a motor vehicle without a license, possessing dangerous drugs, possess utensils, possess property suspected of being acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence and receiving tainted property.
He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
Two women who were also allegedly travelling in the stolen car were arrested and are assisting police with their inquiries.
Anyone with vision or further information is urged to contact police.
