Coward punch: Woman hit while working at Mount Isa pub
A WOMAN is fighting for her life after she was allegedly hit in the head in a brutal coward punch attack while working at a Queensland pub.
A MOTHER is fighting for her life after she was allegedly hit in the head in a brutal coward punch attack while working at a Mount Isa pub.
Police said the 36-year-old duty manager of The Buffs Club suffered critical head injuries when she was struck from behind at the front of the pub by an intoxicated man who had been refused entry.
Police say there was no provocation prior to the attack.
The employee had been speaking with another woman, believed to be the man’s partner, at the time of the attack, which occurred about 12am on Saturday, police said.
It is understood the employee hit her head when she fell to the ground after being struck.
Police said she was taken to Mount Isa Hospital with critical head injuries, including suspected bleeding on the brain, before being transferred to Townsville Base Hospital yesterday.
Mount Isa Superintendent Trevor Kidd condemned any assault in the “strongest possible terms”.
“It’s completely irresponsible and unacceptable behaviour,” Supt Kidd said.
A 28-year-old local man is scheduled to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with grievous bodily harm.
