Cops release CCTV as 23yo chased, shot dead
Police have released bizarre footage of a man biking up and down a suburban street while shouting following the alleged murder of a young woman in Queensland.
Police have released mysterious CCTV footage of a man swearing while riding a bike as part of the investigation into the alleged murder of a young woman in Queensland this week.
Chloe Jade Mason, 23, was found unconscious on Railway Parade in Caboolture about 12.10am on Sunday.
Emergency services provided first aid, but she died at the scene.
Police said the young woman – who was known to loved ones as CJ – was allegedly assaulted and chased by two men before being shot during the middle of the night.
“Detectives believe it was not a random attack and the parties involved were known to each other,” a statement from Queensland Police said.
CCTV footage has now been released in an effort to find the men involved in the alleged attack.
In the two-minute clip, a man can be seen riding up and down a suburban street before he can be heard swearing and yelling at someone.
Dogs can be heard barking in the background before a police siren can eventually be heard.
“Anyone travelling along Railway Parade between 11.40pm on Saturday, December 21 to 12.15am on Sunday, December 22 is urged to come forward,” police said in a statement.
Speaking to Nine News, Ms Mason’s sister Dani said she “didn’t deserve this”.
“She was the most amazing person you could ever meet, like she’s someone that you would have wanted to have by your side in life,” she said.
Ms Mason’s loved ones have taken to social media in tribute over recent days.
“A true warrior. A First Nations Australian, she was powerful and fierce. She was so so loved,” one of her friends wrote on Facebook.
Another friend wrote: “She was taken from us way too soon. She had some rough times and faced a lot of challenges, but through it all, she remained a genuinely good person with a huge heart.”
Ms Mason’s sister, Hannah McKone, has also started a fundraiser in the hopes her family can give Ms Mason a proper send-off.
“I’m fund raising on behalf of my little sister Chloe,” the GoFundMe campaign said.
“Being so close to Christmas her family has no savings or financial means to give her a funeral.
“We are graciously asking for help and support in this. All funds donated will be directly used for Chloe’s funeral service.”
Queensland Police minister Dan Purdie said there was no risk to the broader community that it was a targeted attack.
“There’s no suggestion the public should be alarmed by this and I’m confident the police will solve this sooner rather than later,” he said.
Mr Purdie urged anyone with information to contact police to “help solve this murder”.
“It’s an operational matter, police are working around the clock to solve it,” he said.
“It’s not the first time North Brisbane has seen a tragedy around Christmas time.
“It’s something we do want to stop particularly a violent crime like that.
“We need to make sure our police have all the resources and the laws they need to do their job and keep people safe.”
