Brutal attack on Gold Coast cyclist caught on CCTV
CCTV has captured the moment a man allegedly bashes a cyclist and steals his backpack at a busy intersection on the Gold Coast.
Shocking footage of a man brutally bashing and robbing a cyclist at a busy intersection at Benowa on the Gold Coast has been captured on CCTV.
In the footage, the man punches the cyclist to the ground before throwing his bike at him in front of a bunch of cars at the Ashmore Rd intersection on Friday night.
Police charged a 29-year-old from Nerang with assault occasioning bodily harm and stealing.
They say the cyclist, 36, was riding along Ross St when he was hit in the head by something thrown out of a passing vehicle.
The Gold Coast rider approaches the silver SUV, which he believes the item was thrown from.
A passenger then jumps out of the car and allegedly begins punching the cyclist before shoving him into oncoming traffic.
At one point the man allegedly throws the cyclist’s bike at him before stealing his backpack.
The cyclist suffered minor injuries.
A woman driving the SUV, which had stopped on the other side of the intersection, approaches the man and they flee the scene.
The man charged is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on April 4, 2022.
Police investigations are ongoing.
