UPDATE: THE man who attended Southport Police Station has been released this afternoon without charge.

EARLIER: A MAN has handed himself in to Southport Police Station following an alleged hit and run on a five-year-old boy at Burleigh Heads this morning.
The man handed himself in at about 12.30pm with Gold Coast lawyer Michael Gatenby by his side.
Two boys were riding their bicycles on Fourth Ave about 8.30am today when they appear to have been hit by a car according to a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman.
She said the both boys were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition “without specific injuries”.
Initial police investigations suggest just one five-year-old boy was hit by a man who then drove away.
Paramedics called police to the scene where they started to search for the vehicle.
Police later found a vehicle they think was involved nearby at Tabilban St.
The man who handed himself in is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
It is understood the man’s brother is also in custody over the alleged hit and run.
No one has been charged over the incident.
