Teenagers front court charged with attempted murder of boy, 17, following alleged assault in his bed
Two men alleged to have left a Brisbane teenager fighting for life following a serious alleged ‘gang’ assault have fronted court.
Two men charged with the attempted murder of a Brisbane teenager allegedly bashed in his bed will remain behind bars on remand until their next court appearance.
Dut Acot and Lasender Sheriff fronted Brisbane Arrests Court on Thursday morning following a police blitz where multiple teenagers were arrested over the incident.
The two men are alleged to be part of a group of ten behind the “vicious” assault of a boy, 17, at Milton last Saturday.
Lawyers for the pair did not apply for bail when their matters were briefly mentioned on Thursday.
Mr Acot, 19, will reappear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 27.
A lawyer for Mr Sheriff, 18, said her client would apply for bail and had the matter relisted to September 14.
Another seven juveniles are due to appear before the Children’s Court later on Thursday.
Police allege the group briefly attended an apartment and launched the vicious assault on the boy as he slept after 3am.
The victim was left fighting for life in hospital.
On Wednesday police charged ten people - all aged between 15 and 19 - with charges that include attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and contravening order about information to access information stored electronically
Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming told reporters on Wednesday the “cowardly” attack had sparked fears of retaliation in the community.
A motive has not been determined but he said it was suspected there was some form of “potential retaliation” between the two groups that night.
He said some of the young people alleged to be involved label themselves as being part of a gang.
