The charges follow a police investigation into the deadly New Year’s Eve gathering on Lychee Close.

Police will allege the 14-year-old stabbed two 17-year-olds from Mooroobool during a disturbance that broke out near the party at about 1am.

The Cairns Post was reporting that the party got out of hand after being shared on social media, with the late-night brawl involving up to 30 people in the street.

One of the Mooroobool boys died in Cairns Hospital, having been taken to emergency by a private vehicle prior to the arrival of police.

The other boy was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 14-year old accused has been denied bail and will appear in Cairns Children’s Court on Monday.

Three other males were arrested following investigations into the street disturbance. All three, aged 17, 18 and 28 were charged with obstructing police.

The 18-year-old and the 28-year-old, both from Manoora, are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 18.

The younger man was also charged with serious assault police after allegedly punching an officer and the older man also charged with contravening a direction.
