‘Menace’ pedophile’s sick text fantasies to mum, underage son and daughter revealed

A “menace” pedophile who outlined his sick sexual fantasies and plans for a mum-of-two and her underage children have been revealed at court.

A “deviant” pedophile’s vile messages to who he thought was a single mum-of-two have been revealed in court, including his sick demands for what he wanted the woman’s fictitious kids to do.

It took less than a week for Kristofer Stanley Kerwin to escalate initial contact with the profile – who was actually an undercover cop – to meeting up with the intent to have sex with her and the fictitious children, Brisbane District Court was told during his sentencing on Thursday.

He was undone after attending a McDonald’s restaurant, where police were waiting for him.

Kerwin’s sick messages to the profile included demands for pictures of the children and suggestions the fictitious mum teach them to perform sexual acts.

“You’re a real menace, you’re a danger to children,” District Court Judge John Allen KC told Kerwin.

“It’s obvious the parole board would need to give earnest consideration to the risk you pose to children.”

Despite the court being told of his history of breaches of court and supervision orders, Kerwin was made eligible for parole on Thursday after spending more than a year in pre-sentence custody.

Kerwin, 33, pleaded guilty to two charges of grooming a child under 16 and a single charge of possessing child exploitation material.

The court was told he began messaging a profile on February 2, 2023, which purported to be a mum with two kids on an image-sharing website.

In reality, the profile belonged to an undercover cop who pretended to have a daughter, 12 and son, 8.

Kerwin revealed he wanted to have a sexual relationship with the woman and her children, asking for pictures of the kids on February 4.

The messages became increasingly more vile as the days progressed.

One included: “Have they ever been touched before? If it’s okay I really want to try f**king.”

In another message he suggested the woman teach the children to “suck c**k and munch p***y” and indicated he “wasn’t too sure how far” he would go with the woman’s daughter, but suggested “anal (sex)”.

The pair made plans to meet up at a McDonalds restaurant on February 8, 2023 but Kerwin was arrested by police waiting at the fast food outlet.

A video of a child being sexually abused was also found on his phone.

Crown prosecutor Isabelle MacNicol revealed Kerwin had a history of failing to comply with court orders and reporting obligations as a child sex offender.

Some of his breaches included having photos of nappies and a child victim, and recorded images of his offending against a child on his phone.

Ms MacNicol said there was a need to protect the community, especially children, from Kerwin.

“He has demonstrated a lack of rehabilitation over the years, to the point of being a recidivist child sex offender,” Ms MacNicol said.

“In this case it was the defendant who initiated contact, and he progressed the contact to a point of meeting the children within less than a week.

“It’s of little mitigation the children in this case were fictitious.”

Gavin Webber, Kerwin’s defence barrister, acknowledged his client had a serious psychiatric condition he was attempting to seek help for.

“He’s not shifting the blame, but he does seem to struggle to get the help he needs,” Mr Webber said of his client.

“He needs intense help.”

His client was able to work – holding a certificate 3 in hospitality and diploma in music – but had difficulty holding down jobs due to being in and out of custody.

The court was told Kerwin, who was born in Maryborough but raised in Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane, was suicidal at the time and struggled with suicidal ideation.

He otherwise still had the support of his mother, whom had offered him to live with her.

Judge Allen said it would have been “crystal clear” Kerwin was in the sights of authorities given his criminal history.’

“It’s quite clear … you have a sexually deviant interest in children,” Judge Allen said.

Kerwin received a head sentence of 2.5 years’ jail, with 393 days spent in pre-sentence custody declared as time served.

He was made immediately eligible for parole.
