Logan teacher Jason Seung Hak Lee charged with rape, grooming
A high school maths teacher charged with rape and child grooming has fronted court for the first time since his arrest in July.
A Logan teacher charged with child grooming and rape is facing a string of fresh charges as he appeared in court for the first time.
Former Marsden State High School maths teacher Jason Seung Hak Lee, 29, was first charged with two counts of rape and one count of grooming a child under 16 to take part in a sexual act in July this year.
Police will allege in court that Mr Lee used online chat platforms, including Snapchat, to communicate with a 14-year-old girl before they met twice in June.
It will be further alleged that Mr Lee poses as a teen to chat to teen girls online.
When the matter was briefly mentioned in Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday, five fresh charges were listed for the first time.
Those charges relate to one count of indecent treatment (filming) of a child under 16, one count of indecent treatment (permit) of a child under 16, one count of possessing child exploitation material, and two counts of rape.
The court was told the fresh charges related to separate complainants.
Magistrate Zachary Sarra said he expected the “serious allegations”, which were “fairly recent”, would be required to be heard in a higher jurisdiction at some point.
He adjourned the matter to November 25 for further committal mention to allow the prosecution time to finalise its brief of evidence against Mr Lee.
“The police, they’re very stressed at the moment,” Mr Sarra said.
“I know from previous encounters that we set these agendas and they often get misplaced.”
Mr Lee was stood down from his teaching role following his arrest in July.
He is yet to enter any pleas and remains on bail for all charges.
